Costa Rica Ranked as Most Innovative Country in Latin America

Costa Rica is the most innovative country in Latin America, ranking 39th of 142 countries surveyed on the Global Innovation Index (GII) 2013.

The country climbed from the 60th position in 2012, surpassing Chile as regional leader. Costa Rica also was one of three countries that climbed more positions in this year’s ranking, released Monday in Geneva, Switzerland.

The GII ranking is published every year by the European Institute of Business Administration, Cornell University and the World Intellectual Property Organization.

According to the report, Costa Rica's better ranking this year is due to improvements in infrastructure, human capital, public institutions and business "sophistication," the report said.

The country also obtained a better score in the production of knowledge and technology.

JetBlue Launches Daily Flights Between Fort Lauderdale and San Jose, Costa Rica

JetBlue Airways on Thursday began daily nonstop service from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport to San Jose's Juan Santamaria International Airport in Costa Rica.

The added daily route comes a result of the steady growth of passengers travelling to Costa Rica from South Florida. The new route allows JetBlue to increase the availability of seats for the passengers travelling from the United States to the Juan Santamaria International Airport.

Air Canada Announces New Flights to Costa Rica

Air Canada announced the launch of its new, inexpensive leisure travel airline brand, “Rouge,” which began service this month and will provide service to both the San Jose and Liberia airports in Costa Rica, departing from Toronto, Canada.
“With the introduction of Air Canada Rouge, the company enters the growing leisure travel market,” Ben Smith, executive vice president of the airline, said in a statement. Air Canada already operates one non-stop flight per week to Costa Rica.

Equestrian Center Plans Advancing at Naturewalk

The layout architectural designs for our horses' first facilities at the Naturewalk Equestrian Center are advancing, with the reviews of the stables, fence riding area and tack storage having been completed.

In addition, Naturewalk is purchasing new tack supplies for its existing horses and getting four additional horses that will be added to the stables in the next 30 days.

Costa Rica Ranked as Most Peaceful Country in Central America

Demilitarized since 1948, Costa Rica for the second consecutive year ranks as the most peaceful country in Central America, according to the Global Peace Index 2013, published by the Institute for Economics and Peace.

Costa Rica is in 40th position in the global index, three places worse than the year before.
Panama is second in the region and 56th in the world, while Honduras is the most violent country in Central America.

Iceland leads the world ranking, while Afghanistan is last in the list of 162 countries. The index measures factors such as the number of homicides, effect of terrorism, political stability, and military spending as a percentage of GDP (figures in parentheses refer to the position of each Central American country in the global ranking).
